One of the easiest and best ways to travel in Alaska is by ship or ferry. Cruise ships have access to much of the most magnificent views found along the coast and all you need to do to enjoy these is roll out of bed and take a stroll around what becomes your floating hotel. Cruises vary in length, include a number of popular ports of call and can offer additional land tours that enable you the chance to explore well known parts of inland Alaska.
If you prefer an Alaskan vacation that is land-based consider hiring an RV and heading wherever you want in your mobile home.
Other travelers take Alaskan rail trips, cycle, motor cycle or take small boat cruises as part of their Alaskan vacation. They soak in the spectacles that abound around every turn until its time to go home. Some even decide it’s too beautiful to leave and continue their love affair with this very special place as a new ‘local’. Unlikely, you say.
