Five Benefits of Traveling on Alaska Cruise Ships

Benefit 1

Alaska with over 30,000 miles of shore line looks most spectacular when viewed from a cruise ship.  Alaska cruise ships travel the same paths that locals and explorers in this great land used along fjords, rivers, along coastline and around islands that make up Alaska’s famous and spectacular Marine Inland Passage.

Benefit 2

There are an extensive number of Alaska cruise ships that travel to and from Alaska every year.  The largest of these can carry in excess of 2,000 passengers and offers a wide range of on-board activities as entertainment in the event that they tier of the breathtaking scenery at hand.  Smaller cruise ships carry up to a hundred passengers and can maneuver more easily for up close and personal views of spectacles like glaciers, waterfalls and some wildlife there.

The length of your Alaska cruise vacation can be determined by your time and your bank account.  Most cruises traveling north set out from cities south of Alaska in Seattle or Vancouver while cruises heading south leave most often from the towns of Seward or Whittier near Anchorage.  3 to 5 day cruises travel from Vancouver and Seattle and 7 to 10 day cruises from Seattle and Vancouver.

Alaska cruise ships can be your traveling hotel for part of your Alaska vacation but you can take organized shore trips at each port of call and if Alaska’s inland beckons you can participate in extended land tours.  Denali National Parka and Mt McKinnley are popular examples of this.

You can select from two main routes for those traveling on Alaska cruise ships, from Vancouver or Seattle through the Marine Inland Passage to the area referred to as the Panhandle and then back or directly from these cities to Whittier or Seward along the Gulf of Alaska.  Small ships often include interesting options into fjords not accessible to larger cruise ships.
