Juneau Alaska Travel – 3 Ways to Make the Most of Your Time in Juneau
Juneau is the political capital of Alaska. Located on the Gastineau Bay in south western Alaska with Mt Juneau and Mt Roberts towering immediately behind it, Juneau is a beautiful city. Most visitors include Juneau Alaska Travel in their vacation whilst cruising the Marine Inland Passage or use it as a spring board to other parts of this spectacular water way. To make best use of your time in and around fascinating Juneau consider the following travel options. If you are visiting Juneau in Spring see if your visit can correspond with the annual Alaska Folk Festival. After a long cold winter it draws singers and writers from across Alaska and nothern Canada and its a hoot. We stumbled upon it one year and couldn't believe our luck!
A walking tour will get your heart rate up as Juneau hugs the side both mountains. You will find many of Junaeu's places of interest including the Governor’s House and St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral. You will get a close-up look at its quaint wooden houses and find your way around the highest streets on a series of stepped walkways. Soak up the view of the city, the mountains and the bay from the highest vantage points. You are likely to enjoy your interactions with the wonderful array of locals who could well be 'suits' from the political scene or one of the many artisans who live in this city.
Alaska Brewing Company is Alaska's largest brewery with an interesting history and an impressive product. Located a little out of town it’s worth catching a cab there, enjoying a tour of the brewery and the story of its formation and its success and then a sampling its beers. Beer connoisseurs have been known to return whenever they’re in Juneau but it is worth experiencing at least once!
Mendenhall Glacier is a well known geographical attraction and worth including in your Juneau Alaska travel itinerary even if you only plan to stay for a short time. Located 13 miles out of Juneau it is most easily accessed by car, a glacier bus or a local bus ride with a short walk from the final stop. It is well known as a drive-in glacier and looks impressive in all types of weather. The visitor center at Mendenhall provides comprehensive details of the history of this glacier with exhibits a relief map and photographs.
