Why Alaska Travel?

With so many popular travel destinations around the world, why do so many people choose Alaska travel at least once?  The answer is simple.  Because they meet people like me who themselves were once enticed to witness Alaska’s grandeur after hearing the stories of other Alaskan travelers.

Yes, Alaska travel enthusiasts often discover this remarkable place through word of mouth

In 1982, inside a book about Alaska given to me as a gift, a friend wrote ‘Your spirit of adventure will make Alaska one of your goals’.  My spirit of adventure eventually took me there twenty years later.  As I regale my Alaska travel stories, my hope for you is that Alaska becomes one of your goals and you reach in a much shorter time.

I’ve been bitten by the Alaska travel ‘bug’-not the Alaska Mosquito, often referred to there as the Alaskan ‘State Bird’. Three return visits (and there will be more), have revealed the many and varied faces of Alaska. The beauty of the landscape and the warmth of local Alaskans have so entranced others Alaskan travelers I know, that they’ve stop traveling back and forth and taken one step further by relocating there.

It isn’t possible for everyone to live in Anchorage, Juneau, Fairbanks, Seward, Skagway or somewhere in between, but we can all visit these Alaskan destinations. Surrounded by breathtaking mountains, glaciers and rivers alive with fish, each of these parts of Alaska reflects its interesting history and its exciting future. Despite the mountainous terrain there Alaskan towns are all accessible either by car, ferry, train or by plane if your Alaska travel vacation is limited by time. If you’d like further details of where and how to travel in Alaska, read my other articles on this site or on my Travel Alaska blog.
